The Angels Vintage Sale
On 6th December 2008 Angels held The Big Vintage Sale, with over 100,000 items dating back from the 1940's to modern day. The sale was a huge success with over 3,000 people descending on our Wembley warehouse to buy a piece of fashion history.
With the ability to just buy a bag and fill it, people got bargain after bargain and we sold nearly everything there was. We at Angels had great fun at The Sale and so did everyone who took part. Below you will find comments and pictures of the sale as it took place, if you want to be added to our mailing list to be notified of future sales please email us here: sale@angels.uk.com
Sale Day - 6th December 2008
The calm before The Sale.
Queues were forming from 6am. Some customers had camped out all night.
The Sale room soon became very busy...
... and just got busier.
A unique opportunity to grab armfuls of fashion history at giveaway prices.
Rummaging was the order of the day.
The military uniforms proved incredibly popular.
Cleared out...
Through our Facebook group, we asked you to email us with images featuring items bought at the sale.
Thanks to Lily and Sam who were first to respond with these great images:

I am still buzzing from yesterday's excitement. I've just been combing through my spoils and am very pleased indeed! - Caroline
The sale yesterday was fantastic! - Alice
I wanted to pass on my thanks to you and your colleagues for such a fun, well organised event. - Caroline
I thought yesterday was crazy but AMAZING, my mum and i had a £50 bag each, and got an amazing selection of dresses (about 30 in total) as well as 5 hats,a coat and 4 handbags. We were in at 9 and out at 11. Well worth the 5am wake up call. - Eleni
I got some good things, and it was a great experience.... Got some good stuff, and met some lovely people, but my god was there a lot of things beyond repair, and a lot of things being ripped up by other buyers...rude! Still, an experience I'm glad I had! - AJ
That kind of volume of people were never all going to come away happy; I'm not saying it was done awfully or anything (hats off), just I felt extremely disappointed and like I'd wasted 3 hours (well 5, with travel) for nothing. - Kristina
I bought a lot of puffy/big clothes so was quite please to have a £50 bag that could hold that - Marijke.
I have to say, whislt it was an interesting event it is a pity some people were allowed to buy up to 12 bags..its fair enough if you've bothered to ge there at stupid o clock that you get first dibs but honesty some people were like savages, not letting you anywhere near the boxes whislt they stuffed their many bags full of gear! - Julia
got so many nice things two suits 4 shirts a dress a skirt a coat in a 20 pound bag :) was good - Nima
Arrived there at 7:20 and remembered my measuring tape so I came away with all but one item fitting me perfectly. Got an emerald green velvet Victorian day dress, a black cut away frock coat, a white lace Edwardian tea dress, a black Victorian silk dress, several black long black skirts from various periods, silk and wool scarves and shawls, a leotard, a mesh gothic dress and a few modern dresses in nice fabric. All in 2 £20 bags. Very crowded after a about an hour inside and it was worth the early start. - Madeline
Had a great time - all the staff I spoke to were great - friendly and helpful. The people I met in the queue were lovely. Managed to get some great jackets and dress-trousers - I really enjoyed it. Not being a shoping type of chap, I cantered through quickly. Got there at 6am, waited til 8:30 and was part of the first group in. I managed to get an eight tier silk wedding dress in my £20 bag along with two silk tea dresses. I filled another £20 with silk overdresses, devore tea dresses and cardigans. I was so completely shocked when I got outside and saw the queue! Yes there was a lot of tat but the dedicated ones got the rewards!!! Thank you Angels!!! - Lauryn
think this kind of thing is a brilliant idea! all very exciting. - Natasha
Arrived at 7.30, and must have been in the first few hundred people, though luckily we were pretty much let in at 9. Headed straight to the 50s room, and managed to pick myself up some fantastic dresses, Picked up random bits of knitwear, leggings, some cool bags and a few scarves. Was definitely worth it, - Kristabel
My friend and I got their at 5.30am and came back with bags of great things. We thought the event was brilliantly organised. It was a great morning. Brilliant sale!! Well done Angels. - Lacey
We had a group of us and we got there around 7.... got in quickly and it was manic but fun and came away with some fairly good stuff.... one of our group came away with some amazing dresses...at things like this you get there early as it was first come first served and advertised like that and it is luck of timing... the first people there had been queuing since 3.30 the afternoon before. Fab event and please do this again. - Samantha
Just felt I had to write and say what a FANTASTIC time I had!!! I got there just before it got really busy, headed straight for the 30's-50's section and luckily came away with over 13 evening gowns! amazing! I was finshed by 10:15, and the queue outside was already ridiculous, just felt sorry for people still queuing outside- just have to get there early I guess? anyway thanks for such a great morning! - Eleanor
I think there are gonna be a lot of new amateur dramatics groups started on the strength of helmets/swords/shields brought! - Delia
i got there rediculously early and think the men had generally better things to go for than the women it was fun though :) - Nima
I personally enjoyed it but i really think the clothes should have been sorted by item not era, that was just to confusing. - Jennifer
i am in love... i got the most gorgeous pink flowery dress that i plan to cut up and turn into a shift kinda thang :). also AMAZING MILITARY COATS!! that three hour wait was soo worth it... - Becca
Wow! I arrived at 8 so I got in a little after 9 - I was out by 10.15 sweaty but happy! I know other people who arrived at 8.20 and queued much longer. I really don't think people were trying hard enough to fill their bags - I bought two £20 bags and fitted in ten dresses, a ballet tutu, a bowler hat, a (fake) bear skin hat, a military waistcoat and an amazing medieval style puff sleeve jacket thing. That works out at just over £2 an item! - Abigail
I got there for 7:30am and was in within the hour I came away totally a happy bunny! I got 4 pairs of vintage 60's trousers, 2 amazing long black fitted coats (one an admirals jacket the other is just to cool to describe!) 2 pairs of short black pantaloon jester trousers, an admirals hat, some very cool legging things to go under the jesters trousers, a beasts foot, a crown, a clock, some bullets, a waistcoat, and the most amazing suede fitted jacket which is quite bizarre! All for £50! Each coat I got must be worth tripple that, let alone the rest! - Paul
wow! worth getting there early! got lots of goodies in my bag :-D - Hannah
such a good day, bit overcrowded but what do you expect - Jess
Had a great time once I finally got in - was worth the wait for sure. Can't speak for the thousands (literally) of people still lining up/joining the queue when I left at 11:15! I ran out of time and couldn't do the 60's mens stuff which looked good. Wish I'd had a better idea where to look for man things. Nevermind though, I got a gorgeous green military trenchcoat, a 60's overcoat, a scraggy Jewish overcoat, two pairs of trousers, a cape, a blue flowery frock and a headscarf for £70. Thanks, Angels! - Billy

How shocked was I to get there early, think I'd be one of the first there and find hundreds already queueing!! Brilliant sale though, slightly chaotic but got my hands on lots of really cool stuff. Had to buy another £20 bag just to fit my funky 70s shoes in, but ended up filling that as well! - Billy
That was just a little bit insane... i have a bag full of lovely musty smelling clothes.. hurrah! - Hannah
wow that wat intense! Yet amazing! Had to make myself leave as to not spend even more! Queuing was ok too, had some good things in my bag :) Thanx for all! - Marijke
Thank you everyone at Angels for the chance to buy from your collection!!!! We were first in the queue and although the sleepness night fully clothed in sleeping bags and camp chairs was hard work it was well worth the 18 hour wait!!!!!!! Saturday was lost in travel and sleep but today I am unpacking the bags of treasures and I am absolutely thrilled with every single piece! What a rare and brilliant opportunity you gave us all! - Jane
Like a complete muppet I got there far too late but it sounds like it did really well, with many a happy customer. - Annabelle
