The Tour

We have so many enquiries for tours of our collection from Student groups, fashion houses and general interest groups. For many years we have resisted the requests, but we are delighted to announce that we have launched our exclusive Tour. Dates and times for the tours are strictly limited and it is essential that appointments are made in advance.

The Tour is a wide-ranging look behind the scenes of the World's Largest Costumiers, it is not intended to be a research visit. If your tour requires specific items selecting from our stock this can be arranged for an extra charge. You will need to discuss this when you arrange your tour.

What does the The Tour include?

A tour of the collection takes about an hour and a half and we look at the Tailoring and Ladies Making departments where bespoke pieces are created for Film, TV and Theatre productions. From there we go into our Alterations section where costumes are restored and altered to fit the specific requirements of the Costume Designer. You'll get a snapshot of what we are working on at the moment of your visit.

Then we trail our way through the Costume Warehouse. This cavernous room contains 8 miles of costume hanging rails with 2 million individual items. We take a look at the Uniform sections both military and civilian; depending on the size of your group we may take a look at sections such as the Badge Room.

Next Fairies and Flappers jostle for shelf space amongst Batman and Banana costumes along with a whole array of other packet costumes are stored for - Britain's brightest fancy dress supplier, then onto our other Film and TV costume departments including our Fur Room.

Next it's down onto the floor of the collection where we wander through rack upon rack of period, modern and contemporary clothing, with your tour finishing in our Jewellery Department.

Spaces on The Tour are strictly limited to 12 people (including group leaders etc), the smaller your group the more of the building you will be able to see. For a full group of 12 it may not be possible to visit some of the smaller departments.

Participants need to be able to walk quite a distance; we will be on our feet for an hour and a half. Wheelchair users are welcome, please do mention at the time of enquiring if you have a wheelchair user in your group.

Tour information is provided as an indication of what is possible and not all areas will be available at the time of your visit. If something is of particular interest then do mention that when you enquire about the The Tour service.
